Red Rock Hydro Plant

Design-assist for the newly constructed 36.4-megawatt hydroelectricity power plant in Pella, IA retrofitted to the existing dam reservoir. This project was an excellent example of how the design-assist process can save a project money. As part of this design-assist process, our team reviewed the one-lines and general arrangements provided by the engineer and was able to reduce the feet of cable used by 53,000+ as well as the number of raceways used by 13,500+. This resulted in over 6,000+ hours of saving to the Client.

Scope of Work

As part of this project, our team was involved in both the balance of the plant (BOP) equipment procurement, installation, and start-up as well as the installation of Voith Turbine equipment and controls for both units. The Client utilized our Utility team to handle the substation at the power plant as well as tying in the 69kV line to the existing grid. Our scope included construction of the temporary power system and ongoing maintenance of the system throughout the duration of this seven-year project. Permanent lighting work included duct bank construction and installation, powerhouse balance of plant electrical construction, and switchyard electrical construction.
