ArchKey Technologies Innovates with a Fusion of Historic Charm & Modern Design At Ryan’s New Headquarters

Minneapolis’s Downtown East Mill District, once the heart of the city’s flour milling industry, is undergoing a transformation into a vibrant urban center. The area will soon feature 1.2 million square feet of office space across two 17-story towers, a residential complex, 26,000 square feet of retail space, six-level parking ramp, and a 4.2 acre public park named The Commons.

Leading the charge on the development of the Downtown East complex is Ryan Companies. Their latest addition is the 4-story, 174,000 square foot Millwright Building situated near the back of one of the two towers. This building combines a warehouse-like aesthetic with modern technology, making it a unique blend of old and new. The first two floors of the Millwright Building serve as Ryan Companies Minneapolis headquarters complete with open workspaces, rooftop terrace, and a skyway connecting to The Commons.

Scope of Work

To modernize the 65,000 square foot headquarters, ArchKey Technologies was brought in as a design-build partner for their expertise in audio visual and sound masking technologies, turning the space into a collaborative and immersive environment.

The main focal point of the office’s signature building is the tiered lobby featuring a 2-story video wall surrounded by wide wood clad steps. The lobby serves as an additional workspace for people as well as a gathering and presentation space for large groups. ArchKey Technologies worked with premier partners to bring the 9-screen video wall to life.

Designed to foster collaboration, the new headquarters features a network cubicle and team spaces. To address the potential noise issue from 290 team members working together in a 22-foot high space, ArchKey Technologies installed sound-absorbing ceiling panels rendering the space nearly echo free and reducing noise levels by 30%, compared Ryan’s previous space.

For team members who need more privacy, 21 conference rooms and a training room double as private phone rooms or offices. Each conference room was fit out with a Cisco video conferencing codec creating the ultimate video collaboration experience connecting multiple displays, video and content input sources, microphone arrays and speakers. These rooms also feature Creston panels for easy scheduling and room booking, ensuring a highly connected and efficient workspace.
