U of M Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB)

This design-assist project consisted of a 116,000 square foot, two-story remodel of the existing Shriner’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. The U of M campus sought to convert the space into a new clinical research and workspace for the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain. MIDB’s mission is to advance brain health from the earliest stages of development across the lifespan. This facility will serve as a centralized location to bring that expertise together to understand how young brains develop and the appropriate timing to apply that research so it can make the largest impact. Located on the East River Parkway near the U of M Twin Cities campus, the 10.2-acre property includes a two-level building with research center, clinic, and support area as well as a community center and an attached parking lot.

Scope of Work

The distribution system was a mixture of existing and new equipment which caused some challenges with having to correct some feeder sizes as well as adding equipment closer to the mechanical loads. Our team was able to provide accurate cost analysis for this which allowed us to discuss alternative options with the owner and General Contractor to make adding future loads easier while minimizing cost impact.
